March 13, 2010

Summit Motorsports Park is looking for a Track Manager. For the right candidate, this position will be as rewarding as it will be demanding. Summit Motorsports Park enjoys a reputation as an industry leader in presenting family oriented motorsports entertainment. That reputation is in no small part due to the management and staff who dedicate themselves to maintaining that hard-earned status.
March 14, 2010

That was one great race! The NHRA Gatornationals for 2010 exceeded all expectations with record setting performances and eyebrow-raising announcements. It was an incredible day of action that included two national speed records, and a national E.T. record. Despite the stunning on-track performances, the biggest news of the weekend came from the pits when John Medlen joined Don Schumacher Racing, effective immediately, after spending the last 15 years with John Force.

The Top Fuel speed record fell when Tony Schumacher drove the Army dragster through the beams at (continued)

March 14, 2010

Summit Motorsports Park is going to have an impressive presence at the Cleveland Autorama next weekend. One of the wide varieties of cars that we’ll have on display is the 1941 Willys Coupe owned and driven by Don Moyer, called the Rebel Reaper. That car, along with several other wild Gas class machines, that will be running in competition this coming July 2-4 at the 9th annual GASSER Reunion. This throwback to the glory days of ‘60s drag racing is sure to catch your eye!

Don Moyer is a hot rodder in the historical sense of the term. That stems from a day when hot rodding and drag racing went (continued)

March 13, 2010

We ran into some of our Summit Motorsports Park regulars this weekend over in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Woodland Mall has its annual car show over the course of the weekend and Brandon and Valerie Bennett had their pit crew put their Jr. Dragsters on display. While walking around the show, we ran across another familiar face. Reverend Dale Schaefer, who not only races at Summit Motorsports Park but officiates at several of our shows throughout the year, had his car on display. (continued)

March 11, 2010

We heard from Ron Lang yesterday concerning Kyle Lang’s performance at the state wrestling championships in Columbus last weekend. Kyle finished eighth overall, and had some very tough matches that could have gone either way. His final record was 36-9 with 19 pins. Kyle is only the second freshman in Norwalk’s history to make it to state and the first one to place! Kyle will be wrestling at the Allstar meet Thursday at Perkins Middle School representing the Northern Ohio League, and he will also wrestling in the off season at various camps in Pennsylvania and just down the road in Milan.
March 10, 2010

I’ve been hearing a lot lately about the “good old days” from a surprising number of people. I’m not sure where this tendency to look backward in time with such great fondness is coming from, but I have my suspicions. Sometimes drag racing, like everything else, looks better in the rear view mirror, but the interesting thing about memories is that they aren’t necessarily accurate. (continued)

March 9, 2010

The NHRA 2010 season has gotten off to a roaring start, and in just two days, another famous race kicks off with something old and something new. Thursday is the opening day of the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida, a race that has had more than its share of dynamic moments. This race is the season kickoff for the Pro Stock Motorcycle class, and for the first time ever, it’s the official start of the new Pro Mod class for the NHRA. (continued)

March 4, 2010

The track services division of Summit Motorsports Park has been busy with several projects over the course of the dismal season, and one of the results of their labor is going to shorten downtime for track cleanup by a bunch! The crew has just taken delivery of the completely rebuilt vacuum truck that you see in the picture here. This new machine will make a huge difference when it comes to cleaning and prepping the track. The oversized six-wheeled vacuum cleaner was even painted to match the rest of the fleet of track vehicles on hand. (continued)

March 3, 2010

We are just six weeks away from the beginning of another season of racing, and if you’re feeling anything like I am, it can’t get here soon enough. It’s been a grueling winter here in the Great Lakes region, and the next time I see a snowflake, I’d prefer that it was on some whimsical postcard! So what do you look forward to? Is the national event on the top of your list, or maybe the NAPA Night Under Fire? Despite my overwhelming affinity for nitromethane, and nostalgia races, I’ve noticed that I spend more time looking forward to something a bit more home grown. I look forward to the points races!
February 28, 2010

We just learned that a couple of our regular Summit motorsports Park competitors have a new reason to celebrate. Kyle Lang and Phil Hurst, both Norwalk High School students, have been spending some of their off-season on the school’s wrestling team. Anyone that knows anything about that sport knows how tough it is. Despite the odds, both Kyle and Phil are headed to the Ohio State Wrestling Championships, March 4-6, at the Jerome Schottenstein Center, which is in the Ohio State University Campus in Columbus.
