Wheelstands At The Halloween Classic
October 2, 2008
Saturday night at the 35th Annual K&N Halloween Classic presented by Harland Sharp is one of the high points of the entire week. One of the high points of Saturday night is the renowned Dart Wheelie Contest. Some of the contestants seem to be normal people that have a strong desire to win the contest. Others seem just to be there to defy the laws of gravity and physics. Last year, on a tricky racing surface, Kevin Cody left the line in a bumper-dragging exhibition that went to half-track before traction became dicey. The left slick got a little more traction than the right and the wall became a landing zone. Kevin was unscathed, but the left side of his car looked a lot like the surface of the track. Same color too! Kevin won longest wheelie. Them came Greg Leideker. We’re really not sure how to accurately describe the run. Greg revved the engine, dumped the clutch, and the car went instantly vertical and over on its top. It didn’t really appear to wheelstand so much as just to jump upside down! It was truly a sight to behold. What will we see this year?
The Dart Wheelie Contest will take place immediately following the witching hour on Saturday night. The longest wheelstand and the highest wheelstand both win $5000.00. Each car entered in the Dart Wheelie Contest must also be entered in the Classic. The entered cars must be approved in advance, and no buggies, motorcycles, four wheelers or anything with wings will be allowed! All participating cars must meet the spirit of the rules, and the rules will be enforced at he discretion of the Track Officials. All contestants will have one attempt at a wheelstand, and the contest will be held in one lane with no clocks. If you don’t see any other part of the 35th Annual K&N Halloween Classic presented by Harland Sharp this year, don’t miss this outrageous good time!
